The Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Barry McElduff, recently hosted a reception at The Grange, Omagh for Christian Brothers Grammar School Omagh to celebrate it winning ‘Overall Best Post-Primary School’ at the All-Ireland Féile Scoildrámaíochta.

Speaking at the reception, the Council Chair said:

“As Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I am delighted to welcome you all here to the Grange, Omagh, to celebrate your remarkable achievement at the All-Ireland Féile Scoildrámaíochta in Mullingar.

The All-Ireland Féile Scoildrámaíochta, brings primary and post-primary students from across Ireland together to showcase talent, and celebrate the Irish language in a creative fashion.
To reach this level is no easy task and requires real commitment, time, and focus.

The talent displayed by this group of individuals is incredible, and to win ‘Overall Best Post-Primary School’ is nothing short of remarkable.

Accomplishments like this would not be possible without the support of teachers, and I would like to take this opportunity to commend Christian Brothers’ Grammar School teacher, Emma Pearson, who wrote the performance Scartha, which tells the ‘sometimes uncomfortable’ story of Irish men who fought in World War 1. This was an incredible piece which, combined with the outstanding performances of these young people, truly brought the story to life and was richly deserving of the recognition it received.

Talent in our Council area runs strong. It was fantastic to see another school – Knocknagor Primary School – also showcasing and encouraging expression, creativity and talent and achieving success, with the school winning first place in their category at the event. Unfortunately Knocknagor Primary School was unable to attend this morning’s reception however I was delighted to recently visit the school to commend the pupils and staff on their remarkable achievement.

And, as we all know, Gaelscoil na gCrann has enjoyed a rich vein of success, year in, year out.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to promoting, protecting, and enhancing our rich and diverse culture and heritage. That is why congratulatory events such as this are so important, as they enable us to shine a light on the achievements and talents of our young people, who continue to accomplish so much. To receive such an impressive award on a respected platform such as the All-Ireland Féile Scoildrámaíochta is a remarkable achievement, and it helps to secure the future of our cultural heritage. I have no doubt that your success will continue to inspire and influence other young people.

On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, I would once again like to commend all of you on your achievements, as well as the invaluable support provided by your teachers. Your accomplishment is truly exceptional and reflects incredible talent, dedication, and commitment, and most importantly, a genuine love for what you do. Your prestigious title is well-earned, and I extend my very best wishes for continued success in all that lies ahead.”
