26th September 2025
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, hosted a reception on Monday 22 September at the Grange Council Offices, Omagh for Tyrone Ladies GAA – All Ireland Intermediate Winners.
Speaking at the event, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Barry McElduff said,
‘As Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I am delighted to welcome you all here to the Grange, Omagh, for this reception to mark the Tyrone Ladies’ triumphant victory in the 2025 All-Ireland Intermediate Football Championship.
This is a momentous achievement, not only for you the players, but for the entire county of Tyrone. You delivered a performance full of passion, talent, and unshakeable determination. Your 2-16 to 1-13 victory over Laois is testament to your resilience and the outstanding unity that defines your team.
This victory was built on a foundation of enduring persistence and disciplined focus. From a commanding quarter-final win over Fermanagh to a thrilling 4-17 to 4-14 triumph against Westmeath in the semi-final. Every stage of the process reinforced your drive, sharpened your execution, and added to the unstoppable momentum that brought you to Croke Park.
The collective talent of the players lit up the field throughout the competition. Among them, Sorcha Gormley made an impact with a brilliant performance in the final, one that earned her Player of the Match. I would also like to take this moment to commend captain Aoibhinn McHugh, who had the honour of lifting the Mary Quinn Cup, your leadership and spirit inspired the whole team and exemplifies what it truly means to wear the Tyrone jersey with pride.
Playing sport at this level demands exceptional talent and physical fitness, and your ability to maintain both over time is truly commendable. It also requires a strong commitment to training, a challenge made even greater when balanced with work and family responsibilities. I want to acknowledge and applaud each and every player for your dedication, discipline, and love for the game. I firmly believe that the team’s success is not only a reflection of your skill, but also of your passion for the sport. I have no doubt that you’ve ignited a spark in the next generation of Ladies GAA players, those who will proudly represent our County in the years to come.
On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, I would like to offer my commendations to the management team, led by Darren McCann. Your leadership, tireless dedication and steadfast support has helped shape the triumphant journey of this team. To all the families, the clubs, and the supporters, this victory is also to be shared with you. Your support uplifts the team and is vital in their success. Most importantly, I would like to again congratulate the team on your remarkable achievement and wish you continued success in all that lies ahead.’
