Jets Cheerleading Reception (14 May 2025)

Recently the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, hosted  reception for Team Storm from Jets Cheerleading, Enniskillen in recognition of winning a Bid to the World Summit in Florida.

The following is the speech made by the Chair at the event:

Good afternoon Councillors, Ladies and Gentlemen

As Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I am delighted to welcome you all here to The Townhall, Enniskillen for this reception in honour of Jets Cheerleading Team Storm in recognition of winning a Bid for the World Summit.

In March of this year you travelled to Celtic Spirit in Galway, the largest and most established cheerleading championship in Ireland with world class judges.

Storm is your team name and you compete in the Under 16 level with members aged 11-16 years.  You won 2nd in your Team Division and the highlight of the event was when you also won the Bid to the World Summit.

At this juncture, I also want to congratulate Team Eclipse who came 1st and Team Lightning who came 5th in their respective Team Divisions.

The World Summit, Varsity All Stars Championships, will see you travel to Orlando, Florida in 2026 to compete in one of the most prominent and largest all star dance competitions in the world.

This is an outstanding achievement and it is even more remarkable as I believe you are the first team from Jets Cheerleading and only the second team from Northern Ireland to have won a bid to the World Summit.

The Summit provides an opportunity for athletes in non-world divisions to compete against the best in the world.  This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase your talents.  Although it is a competition, I would encourage you to enjoy the experience so you can make memories to treasure.

Cheerleading requires great physical endurance, flexibility, coordination and balance, however, it has the benefits of teaching you additional qualities which can also benefit you in your school and future working life including leadership, teamwork and confidence.

I would like to commend each and every Team Member for your exceptional talent for demonstrating these qualities to a high standard.  To achieve this requires a lot of commitment to training and this can be challenging as you have your school and personal commitments as well.  You have all been truly dedicated and this is admirable.

I would like to commend your coaches Paige Beacom, Faith McCann and Lucia Regan and I thank you for giving your time and sharing your expertise with the girls to give them this fantastic opportunity.

I would also like to commend Majella and Sarah Beacom who took over the reins at Jets Cheerleading from your mum.  It is now one of the longest running Cheerleading groups in Ireland having been founded in 1986 as Lakeland Majorettes before becoming known as Jets Cheerleading in 2002.

Congratulations to you on sustaining the Group for 39 years and for providing the young people in the District the opportunity to participate in this sport and achieve success.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to ensuring that our people have opportunities to be active and having groups such as Jets Cheerleading to provide unique opportunities to be active, to compete with the best and to make friends and memories contributes to the achievement of this.

On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, I congratulate Jets Cheerleading Team Storm on your brilliant achievement.  You have done yourselves, your family and friends, your Group, your County and your District proud.  I wish you every success for the World Summit in 2026 and for the future.

Thank you.
