Council Announces September Illuminations at Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh from 8pm – midnight, in a series of symbolic colours throughout September 2026 to mark several important awareness campaigns and commemorative events.
Wednesday 9 September 2025 – Red for Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
On Wednesday 9 September 2026, the Council will light up Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre Omagh in red, supporting families/caregivers, and professionals living with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Ireland has the third highest prevalence of FASD in the world – figures show that up to 7.4% of the population in Ireland are living with FASD.
Saturday 19 September 2026 – Green for World Mitochondrial Disease Week
Mitochondrial disease (mito) is a genetic illness affecting energy production predominantly in the major organs. Mito is one of the most common genetic conditions yet is little known. It is progressive, can be life-limiting, and currently there is no treatment or cure. The week aims to raise awareness of mitochondrial disease on a global scale and takes place this year between Monday 14 – Sunday 20 September 2026.
Monday 21 September 2026 – Pink for Organ Donation Week
To mark Organ Donation Week, Council buildings will once again shine pink in support of the UK-wide campaign encouraging people to discuss organ donation and register their choice. Last year, 400 people in the UK died awaiting a transplant. The pink light is a powerful symbol of the NHS Organ Donor Card and the gift of life that organ donation can provide.
Friday 25 September 2026 – Pink for Cancer Focus Go Pink Campaign
By illuminating Council buildings in pink, the campaign aims to increase awareness of the dedicated breast cancer support services available across the district, including our Therapeutic Cancer Support Centre in the heart of Enniskillen. The initiative aligns with the Enniskillen Pink Run at St Angelo Airport on Sunday 27 September, bringing the community together in a powerful show of support for those affected by breast cancer.
Sunday 27 September 2026 – Blue for St Vincent de Paul Day
Both buildings will be illuminated in blue in recognition of St Vincent de Paul Day. The international charity has a strong membership in Fermanagh and Omagh and has been providing the most vulnerable in Northern Ireland with help and support for over 150 years irrespective of their background.
Wednesday 30 September 2026 – Purple for Cauda Equina Awareness Day
By lighting our Council buildings purple, we are helping to raise awareness of Cauda Equina Syndrome which is a rare but serious spinal emergency that requires urgent diagnosis and treatment. Every hour counts, which is why this year’s campaign theme is “Every Hour Matters,” – encouraging earlier recognition of symptoms that could help prevent lifelong disability.
