Celebrating Women & Heritage: International Women’s Day at Strule Arts Centre
26th February 2026
Strule Arts Centre will mark International Women’s Day with a special morning event, Celebrating Women & Heritage, on Saturday 7 March 2026 from 10.30am–12pm.
International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated annually on 8 March, is a global day recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is also a call to action to accelerate gender parity, a day to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about equality, call for positive change and support women-focused initiatives worldwide.
This reflective and uplifting event at Strule Arts Centre will honour the cultural legacy of women past and present, while connecting to the wider story of women’s creativity and heritage.
The morning will begin with tea, coffee and scones, creating a welcoming space for conversation and connection. Award-winning poets and facilitators Cat Brogan and Michelle Dennehy will lead the programme through storytelling, poetry and gentle reflection.
Drawing on our rich literary heritage, the session will explore the lives and legacies of influential women such as Alice Milligan and Rose Kavanagh, whose writing and cultural activism helped shape our literary and social landscape. Their stories will be woven into a wider exploration of women’s contributions to heritage, creativity and community across generations.
Cat Brogan will bring a historical and cultural focus to the session, alongside readings from her own work. Michelle Dennehy will share poetry rooted in activism, wellness and women’s lived experience, offering both inspiration and space for reflection.
The event will close with a 15-minute guided meditation. This gentle and grounding experience invites you to imaginatively walk through history honouring women of the past, our ancestors, and celebrating ourselves as women today.
The event aims to celebrate local women and champion the cultural legacy of women from our past, recognising their vital role in shaping our shared heritage. Participants will leave feeling inspired, connected and grounded, with a deeper understanding of women’s cultural heritage and a renewed sense of belonging and celebration within their local community.
The event is free to attend and for further information and booking, visit www.struleartscentre.co.uk or contact the Box Office on 02882 247831.
