Omagh Place Shaping Plan 2035

Fermanagh and Omagh Community Planning Partnership approved the Omagh Place Shaping Plan 2035, on 14 November 2022.

Place shaping improves the social, economic, environmental, and cultural wellbeing of the place, ensuring aspirations of the community are being realised. It looks at how we can make our communities stronger and more resilient in the future through understanding what we have in terms of assets, i.e., our buildings, our green & brown spaces, our skills and knowledge, our community groups, and our public services. In Omagh, we are using this approach to build on our history, our strategic geographic and economic location, as well as our tourism potential to secure sustainable social, economic, and physical regeneration of our town.

In recent years Omagh has benefited from significant investment; Strule Arts Centre, Southwest College and riverside walks. This Place Shaping Plan, commissioned by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, seeks to build on these strong foundations, creating an ambitious yet a pragmatic pathway for Omagh’s future.

As a partnership, it was important that community engagement played a critical role in the development of this Place Shaping Plan, and this is reflected in its content. A plan co-designed with the people for it’s people.

The ambition for Omagh is to become an increasingly vibrant, healthy and inclusive town. A reimagined and animated green heart for the district, enhanced by progressive regeneration and revitalisation in tandem with enhanced connectivity. Omagh will be a place of choice, inspiring people, communities, visitors and investors to locate and thrive in the heart of Tyrone

The Omagh Place Shaping Plan is designed around six themes which are A Green Heart;  A Beautiful Place; A Connected People and Place; An Inclusive Place; A Thriving Town and A Vibrant Place.

Implementation of this plan will take place over the next 10-15 years and will support the continued regeneration and revitalisation of Omagh, leading to a better place, a town where people increasingly choose to live, work, invest and study.
