It’s time to have your say on its future!

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in partnership with its community planning partners, launched a new Place Shaping initiative for Enniskillen and its surrounding communities.

The ’Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan’, once completed, will set out an ambitious but achievable roadmap to guide the strategies, activities and investment decisions of the Council and key partners in the short, medium and longer term.

The plan will deliver a new vision for Enniskillen, how the town will be positioned to recover from the impacts of the pandemic through promoting and supporting opportunities for a successful local economy while improving the health and wellbeing of the community.

By encouraging inclusive discussions, the council is fully committed to engaging with the local community and its stakeholders, working towards a blueprint for Enniskillen. A vision to make it a smart regional town that is environmentally resilient with a vibrant economic and social heart, while conserving the unique natural and built heritage to enhance and develop tourism further. The Place Shaping team have arranged two business webinars on 8th September 2022 (details below).

Speaking about the plan, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Barry McElduff said: “I would strongly encourage local residents and businesses to have their say with the Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan.  Local people’s ideas and proposals are both necessary and welcome if we are to shape its future.

Enniskillen is a vibrant, appealing island town, with boundless potential and an important strategic position within the county of Fermanagh and the wider region.

The town has a rich history, beautiful scenery and notable attractions and amenities. By working together, we will innovate, create, develop and support a better place for everyone. Now we need to shape how Enniskillen will meet the challenges and opportunities in the future.”

The Chair of the Fermanagh and Omagh Community Planning Strategic Partnership Board, Cllr Errol Thompson said “The development and consultation of this Place Shaping Plan for Enniskillen showcases the capability of community planning in bringing the right people around the table which all have a part to play in its realisation. This process will be about each organisations’ ability to support the ambition through a collaborative and coordinated approach to delivery in the years ahead”.

The Chair of the Enniskillen Steering Group, Cllr Paul Blake said: “I am delighted that the Enniskillen Place Shaping Plan is now open for consultation and I encourage everyone to take an interest and become involved in the decisions that impact on our local area, here in our shared place”.

The development of the Enniskillen Place Plan is being supported by KPMG Future Analytics and overseen by a multi-partner Steering Group and includes significant public and stakeholder engagement to help shape options.

To date the Council and its project partners are actively engaging with a number of sectors including the general public, young people, community and voluntary stakeholders and now turning their attention for more Enniskillen businesses to get involved.

The Place Shaping business webinars are on 8th September 2022 from 8.00am-9.30am or 7.30pm-9.00pm.
