Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has recently installed two inclusive nest swings at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and Killyvilly Play Parks as part of its commitment to making its active recreation sites as inclusive as possible. Basket nest swings will also be installed at play areas at Dromore Village Park and at Todd’s Field, Lammy, Omagh

The work represents an investment of approximately £15,000, funded by the Department for Communities through its Access and Inclusion programme. The programme provides grant aid through Councils and the NI Museums Council to help promote a more inclusive society by improving accessibility at arts, cultural and active recreation venues for people with disabilities.

Speaking about the work undertaken at both Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and Killyvilly Play Parks, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Erroll Thompson said;

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to working in partnership with others to improve the quality of services provided to all the people of the district. A key focus of the Council’s Active Together Strategy is to provide accessible and inclusive opportunities for all to participate in physical and other leisure activities and the installation of the basket swings is evidence of our commitment to the delivery of this key objective.

We are grateful for the financial support from the Department which enabled the Council to deliver on this project. I am confident that the nest swings will be an excellent addition to the play parks at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and Killyvilly.”

Communities Minister, Deirdre Hargey said, “My Department’s Access and Inclusion Programme is designed to help improve accessibility for people with disabilities who often have limited opportunities to participate in activities that many of us take for granted.

“The addition of the nest swings at the Lakeland Forum and Killyvilly Play Parks will help to open up these facilities to those with disabilities, providing them with the opportunity to increase their participation in active outdoor play.”

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to making play accessible to everyone and the nest swings provide a shared play experience that everyone can enjoy. The works will complement the recently adopted Play Strategy which will see an investment of almost £5 million over the next decade to develop transform and upgrade the Council’s play park estate.
