July winner of Recycler of the Month competition
6th September 2019
Mr. Peter Hanna, Enniskillen has been announced as the first winner of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s ‘Recycler of the Month’ competition since its relaunch in June.
The ‘Recycler of the Month’ competition rewards residents for their recycling efforts.
Each month staff from the Council’s waste and recycling service sample blue recycling bins in a different geographical location. Households that have placed the correct items in their blue recycling bin – clean, dry and loose – are then entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning £50 with one household selected per month.
Mr. Hanna’s blue bin was selected because it contained loose, dry recyclables such as paper, cardboard, aluminium and steel cans, plastic bottles and containers, aerosols and glass bottles and jars.
Congratulating Mr. Hanna on being named July ‘Recycler of the Month’, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie, said:
“Mr. Hanna is a great example of how to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by ensuring his recyclable waste is presented clean, dry and loose in the blue recycling bin and by presenting food waste for the food waste collection. Unfortunately not everyone is as conscientious as Mr. Hanna when it comes to recycling with staff reporting blue recycling bins can be contaminated with non-recyclable items including plastic bags, film and packaging, tissues and takeaway polystyrene containers and pizza boxes. I encourage everyone to do their bit and recycle at every opportunity to help the Council to meet its recycling targets, to save money that can be invested in other Council services and to help to protect the environment.”
Inspections of blue recycling bins will continue to be carried out across the district by Council staff throughout the year. Those bins with the correct recyclables will get a yellow label with the householder having the chance to win £50 as part of Recycler of the Month.
