Consultation and Engagement Event Launch (1)

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is hosting two public engagement events to discuss how we can ‘Tackle Climate Change Together’ to improve the lives of everyone and everything in our District. They will provide an opportunity for local people to help shape the future work that the Council take forward.

In February 2021, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council was the first Council in Northern Ireland to approve a Climate Change and Sustainable Development Strategy. Within the strategy, the Council is committed to achieving a Net Zero District by 2042, as well as creating sustainable communities, a sustainable Council and a sustainable environment. The Council recognises that it cannot achieve this alone and needs the opinions of our local residents, community groups and businesses.

The aim of the events is to engage with people of all ages to discuss ideas on how to ensure that our District is climate resilient.

During the events there will be information on some local initiatives, as well as group discussions on the actions that people would like to see delivered in the future. After the discussions, participants will be tasked with deciding on what options should be taken forward and delivered to help combat climate change.

The events are part of the Council’s Corporate Improvement Priority that relates to engagement and involvement. As part of this Improvement Objective, the Council aims to encourage and empower communities to participate in Council engagement structures and initiatives.

The events take place on Tuesday 07 February 2023 in The Grange, Omagh and Wednesday 15 February 2023 in The Townhall, Enniskillen with both events commencing at 6.30 pm.

Speaking about the engagement events, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said:

“Climate Change is one of the biggest environmental issues at this time.

It is important that we take action now to help combat Climate Change and protect our environment locally for the benefit of all our residents, today and in the future.

Any action we can take locally will make a difference and help to achieve broader global objectives.

By working together we can strive to identify key issues and aspirations of importance to us in our District.  We can also achieve more and ensure that the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area is a great place to live, work, visit and invest in.”

The events are open to anyone aged 16 years or over.  Registration for the events will open on Friday 16 December 2022.  To register to attend and have your say, please visit the Consultations section of the Council website, www.fermanaghomagh.com.  For more information or any queries, email consultations@fermamaghomagh.com or telephone 0300 303 1777.
