Exciting weekend planned as part of the “Links Across the Lough” PEACE IV programme

A weekend of fun as part of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s ‘Links Across the Lough’ Peace IV programme, will take place this Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September at the Broadmeadow, Enniskillen.
The ‘Links Across the Lough’ is one of 16 projects identified in the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACE IV Local Action Plan to benefit from a total funding package of £2.8m to deliver projects across three key strands: Shared Spaces and Services, Children and Young People and Building Positive Relations at a Local Level. It brings together people from the Upper Lough Erne region focussing on the Maguiresbridge, Ballindarragh, Lisnaskea, Donagh, Newtownbutler, Magheraveely, Teemore, Derrylin, Kinawley, Arney and Bellanaleck areas, to explore the enriched historical and cultural heritage of the region.
“Links Across the Lough” is supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). Match-funding has been provided by the Executive Office in Northern Ireland and the Department of Rural and Community Development in Ireland.
Saturday 14 September will see members of Lough Erne Heritage and other programme participants will be exhibiting traditional wooden boats and cots at Broadmeadow Place, Enniskillen as part of this year’s European Heritage Open Days initiative. The European-wide programme involves a range of free events and activities which provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage which Northern Ireland has to offer. This particular exhibition will allow visitors to learn more about the history of Lough Erne and the traditions associated with its waterways.
The Lough Erne Championship regatta, the highlight of the calendar year for Lough Erne Heritage members, will take place on Sunday 15 September. Teams from Belleek, Crom, Knockninny and Belturbet will compete at the regatta to be crowned overall champions, the culmination of a series of heats which ran throughout the summer.
Historically, regattas were a county-wide tradition in the area and have been brought back to life by Lough Erne Heritage and local volunteers. Presently, they help those from around the area develop water-based skills while having fun participating in competitive rowing.
These events are just some of many events planned to run until September 2019. Further activities include reminiscence activities and educational projects.
