Enniskillen has been shortlisted as one of two finalists from a record number of entries in the prestigious Bank of Ireland Begin Together Awards in the category of towns with a population between 7001 and 14000 inhabitants.

The awards, formerly known as the National Enterprise Awards, are now in their 5th year and recognise the spirit of enterprise and resilience in towns and cities across the island of Ireland. The Covid-19 pandemic has emerged as the biggest challenge to Ireland’s financial, physical and mental wellbeing in living memory. In this hugely challenging year, the Bank of Ireland Begin Together Awards recognise those businesses and communities who have come together to support local recovery and rebuilding in response to Covid-19.

Commenting on the shortlisting for the Award, the Vice Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John Coyle, said:

“I am delighted that Enniskillen has been shortlisted for their category in this prestigious awards scheme. In the shortlisting process, the judges have recognised not only of the quality of the businesses in Enniskillen town centre but also the level of co-operation between the businesses, Council and  other statutory agencies in resilience they have shown in the face of significant challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has worked diligently, in partnership with town centre businesses across the district to deliver initiatives to ensure that visitors feel safe in returning to our  shops, restaurants, pubs and workplaces and I am pleased that this has been recognised.”

Pat Blake, Interim Chairman of Enniskillen BID said, “As a business community, we, in Enniskillen are delighted that the town has been shortlisted for this prestigious award and it is recognition of the determination and resilience of business owners and their dedicated staff  in overcoming the numerous challenges which this global pandemic has presented to businesses in Enniskillen and is, I believe, evidence that the collaborative approach adopted by all the key stakeholders in supporting the recovery of the town is working.”

The final adjudication is currently ongoing and the category winners will be announced in early October. The winners in each category will also be eligible to be considered for the title of Ireland’s Most Enterprising Town.
