Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has recently trialled a Renault 3.5 tonne electric tipper vehicle as part of its commitment to taking positive action to reduce its carbon footprint.

Working in partnership with Diamond Trucks, the Council Officers tested the vehicle on various routes throughout the District.  The Council currently has six electric vans within its fleet which contribute to a reduction on carbon emissions as well as being more cost effective.

In welcoming the trial of the electric tipper vehicle, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said “I am delighted that the Council has had the opportunity to test drive another electric vehicle with a view to adding to its fleet and taking positive action towards the Council’s net zero carbon commitment as part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan”.  He added “it is important for the Council to act now and take the lead to help reduce the impact of climate change and protect our District for future generations”.

This is one of several carbon emission reduction technologies currently being researched and assessed by the Council, as part of its commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions in Council operations by 2040.
