As part of its Disability Sports Hub Project, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council recently launched its Inclusive Bike Hire Scheme.
The Council in partnership with Disability Sport NI, has purchased adapted bike/trikes NI through funding from Department for Communities via Sport Northern Ireland, too support the Disability Sports Hub project and the equipment is available to hire at both Omagh Leisure Complex and Fermanagh Lakeland Forum.
Speaking about the new scheme, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Chris Smyth said, “I welcome the introduction of this excellent initiative. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to ensuring that its leisure facilities and programmes are fully inclusive this is a wonderful opportunity for people to make the most of this specialised equipment.
These are challenging times and the physical and mental well being of everyone is extremely important. The Inclusive Bike Hire scheme presents people with a disability with the opportunity to get out and enjoy the fresh air while getting some exercise at the same time.”
Coach led programmes are delivered throughout the year, for people with disabilities to try out the various adapted bikes/trikes.
Once training is complete, participants can then hire the bikes/trike at their own leisure. Currently, the bikes can only be hired for use at the running track at both Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and Omagh Leisure Complex.
To hire an adapted trike/bike, you must book the equipment at least 48 hours before you require it. You will then receive confirmation noting availability of trike/bike and running track.
