Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has organised a 12 – week Inclusive Archery programme for young people aged 8 to 17 commencing at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen on Monday 11 January 2021.

Two sessions are available, 6.30pm – 7.10pm and 7.30pm – 8.10pm. The free sessions, organised by the Council in partnership with the Public Health Agency (PHA), as part of the Healthy Towns West programme, under the Making Life Better framework of Empowering Healthy Living, will be delivered by a fully qualified coach.

Speaking about the forthcoming programmes, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Chris Smyth, said:

“Being physically active is extremely important for our health and well-being. Involvement in physical activity from a young age can help develop and encourage life-long participation in activities which will support a healthy and active lifestyle. I  believe that it is important that everyone has the opportunity to participate in our programmes and the Council is delighted to be working in partnership with the PHA to provide this opportunity for our young residents to get active through archery. I would encourage all participants including those with a disability to get involved in the programme’’.

Colette Brolly, the PHA’s lead on physical activity, said:

“It’s important to be physically active at each stage of our lives. Regular physical activity will help keep the heart and lungs working efficiently, maintain a healthy weight, keep muscles and bones strong, and help reduce the risk of developing chronic conditions including some cancers and Type 2 diabetes. Being more physically active can also help to reduce anxiety and stress. I would encourage people to get involved with this programme which promises to be great fun.”

Places on the Inclusive Archery programmes are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Participants must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or carer for the duration of each coaching session. Programme registration is available from Monday 30 November 2020.
