Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has distributed more than £80,000 to 42 community and voluntary groups across the district to support people in food need this Christmas.

The funding for the ‘Christmas Food Support Grant,’ made available through the Department for Communities, will be used by local community and voluntary groups to provide food to those most in need within the district this Christmas time.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Diana Armstrong, said:

“The impact of Covid-19 on our local communities and businesses is profound. With losses in income and social isolation because of Covid-19, this Christmas will be particularly difficult for many.

This funding will be used by local community and voluntary groups to provide food to those most in need within their local community at this time.

I would like to pay tribute to all those groups, organisations, clubs and volunteers for the support and assistance they have provided to those most vulnerable during the pandemic and continue to do so. It is this sense of community and compassion for others that will help us all move forward and look forward to better days ahead.”

Support is available for anyone experiencing difficulties due to Covid-19 during the Christmas period by calling the Covid-19 helpline on 0808 802 0020. Lifeline operates a free telephone helpline 24 hours per day, 365 days a year for anyone in emotional distress or despair on 0808 808 8000.
