The Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Chris Smyth, has welcomed the reopening of the tourism and hospitality sector following the easing of restrictions by the NI Executive.

Councillor Chris Smyth said:

“Across the Fermanagh Lakelands and Omagh and the Sperrins, the Fermanagh and Omagh district is blessed with award winning attractions, a spectacular natural environment with a wide range of outdoor activities and pursuits, historic buildings, sites and a fantastic retail and hospitality offering.

While it was necessary for the sector to close down over the last number of months, the reopening of accommodation, visitor attractions, hospitality, retail and activities, in line with official advice and guidance, is another welcome step in the journey to recovery.

The tourism sector is a key economic driver in the local area, vital to jobs and livelihoods. We very much look forward to welcoming visitors back to Fermanagh and Omagh this summer to experience and enjoy all that it has to offer, and at the same time hope to see our citizens become a tourist at home this year, with so many things to see and do right on their doorstep.

Our local sector has been working hard over the last number of weeks to prepare for reopening, putting additional measures in place so that people can enjoy their visit safely and in line with official advice. In addition, many businesses have signed up to Tourism NI’s ‘We’re Good to Go’ consumer mark providing further reassurance to visitors that they can enjoy a safe experience.

The Council’s Visitor Information Centre is open every day throughout the summer, with our Visitor Services team available to help people plan their visit to Fermanagh and Omagh.”
