The Four Seasons Omagh “Winter” photographic exhibition was launched virtually by the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Diana Armstrong on Monday 22 February 2021.

The exhibition which is taking place as part of the Strule Arts Centre’s virtual programme also marks the start of a much more ambitious project being developed at Strule Arts Centre. The title ‘The Four Seasons’ Omagh, takes its inspiration from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, a series of violin concertos which was intended to be a marriage of the arts of painting, poetry and music.

The theme of the Four Seasons encapsulates this new project from Strule Arts Centre which will combine local photography, art, music and poetry with the photography exhibition representing the first phase of the project.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘Winter’ photographic exhibition, which was streamed on Strule Arts Centre’s facebook page, Councillor Armstrong said;

“There is no doubt that the Covid 19 pandemic has had a significant impact on our daily lives and it has greatly changed the way we work. It has made us look at creative and innovative ways of delivering our Arts programme and by streaming events online such as this evening’s event, greater numbers can tune in and enjoy the Arts from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

The last year has also provided an opportunity for many of us to slow down, reassess what’s important and actually take the time appreciate the beauty that is on our door step. From the images submitted as part of this wonderful exhibition, local photographers, both amateur and professional, have made the most of this opportunity to showcase Omagh and its environs through powerful imagery not just to the local population, but also, through the wonders of technology, around the world.”

As part of an open call for participants, 19 local photographers submitted over 60 captivating “winter” images of Omagh for inclusion in the exhibition which will be available to view from Strule Arts Centre facebook page for the next two weeks. As part of the exhibition, a novel “Photographer of the Day” segment will feature the work of individual photographers.

Strule Arts Centre would like to express its appreciation to the photographers both amateur and professional who have submitted their work showing Omagh and surrounding area at its finest in winter.

The exhibition will run virtually on Strule Arts Centre’s facebook page until 13/03/2021.
