Fermanagh & Omagh District Council is launching the inaugural ‘Art in your Pocket’ exhibition in Strule Arts Centre, Omagh Thursday 2 December at 7.00pm

This is the 1st year of ‘Art in your Pocket’, organised by the Council’s Arts Service and it is hoped that the exhibition will develop into an annual event attracting artists of all genres and creative backgrounds from across the island of Ireland and beyond and will feature art works measuring exactly 6” x 4”.

This year’s exhibition features more than 260 individual works from 62 artists in a range of media including painting, drawing, print, collage, digital photography & mixed media.  It has attracted works from artists from across the island of Ireland, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.

Speaking about the new exhibition, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said;

“An open call to exhibit in the exhibition was issued in October 2021 and there was an excellent response. I am delighted that the Gallery at Strule Arts Centre is hosting the inaugural exhibition of such an eclectic selection of works from new and established artists both local and from further afield in a format that is both affordable and easy to create.

At times such as this, when the arts fraternity in general has been through such a challenging time, and when opportunities for artists to showcase and sell their work are extremely limited, exhibitions such as Art in your Pocket are extremely important not only as a vehicle through which work can be displayed and sold but also to create a platform through which the arts community can participate and show together in a high profile purpose built venue such as the Gallery at Strule Arts Centre.”

The “Art in your Pocket” exhibition will show at Strule Arts Centre until 31 December 2021 before moving to the Ardhowen Theatre, Enniskillen in early February 2022.

The prizewinners for the exhibition will be confirmed by the adjudicators at the opening of the exhibition on Thursday 2 December 2021. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Council is grateful to the external adjudicators, Noelle McAlinden and Geraldine O’Reilly who had the difficult task of adjudicating this eclectic & quirky exhibition of miniature art work.

First prize is for a solo exhibition in Strule Arts Centre, second prize is a two-week Artists Residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, Co Monaghan. Third prize is £150 towards art materials.

The Gallery at Strule Arts Centre is open Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm excluding Christmas closures and admission to the exhibition is free.
