Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are committed to protecting, promoting and enhancing the Irish language within the District.
In an effort to shape and guide this work, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are currently:
- Reviewing and revising its Irish Language Policy;
- Developing an Irish Language Strategy for Council; and
- Creating a three-year Action Plan for Council.

These documents provide the strategic and operational direction for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council over the next few years.  Through working with stakeholders across the District with an interest in the Irish language, Council can develop a more comprehensive and relevant approach which helps support the growth and development of the Irish language.

Tréimhse Comhairliúcháin | Consultation Period

A 12 week period of consultation, from 8 April 2021 to 1 July 2021, is being undertaken by Council and facilitated by independent consultants, Insight Solutions.  You can contribute to this consultation process via the consultation events, online survey or in writing.

This is an opportunity for everyone with an interest in the Irish Language to engage with Council and ensure that our Policy, Strategy and Action Plan reflect the needs of residents within our District.  Fermanagh and Omagh District Council want to ensure that our work has synergy with work being done at a local level within our communities and in line with best practice by all lead organisations involved in promoting and championing the Irish Language.

The table below provides an outline of consultation events being held for you to get involved in this process. Please note, in line with COVID-19 requirements, consultation events will be hosted on Zoom digital meeting software, with meeting details shared prior to the event.  Meetings will be hosted in a bi-lingual format, and attendees are welcome to use Irish Language throughout.  All meetings are open to any organisation or individual, regardless of background, Irish Language ability or affiliation with any Irish Language group/organisation.

General Consultation Events

 

 

General Consultation Events will give you the opportunity to feed into the revision of the Policy and development of the Strategy and Action Plan. 1.     7.30pm Tuesday 20 April

2.     12.30 pm Wednesday 26 May

 

Thematic Focus Groups Thematic Focus Groups will be separate meetings more closely focussed on key themes.  Stakeholders can attend as little or as  many Thematic Focus Groups as they feel relevant to them.

 

1.     Council Service Provision Focus Group – for stakeholders who want to give input into or feedback on Council Services in Irish Language (e.g. support for using Irish Language within the Council);

2.     Capacity Building Focus Group – for stakeholders who want to give input into or feedback on building Irish Language capacity (e.g. networking, support organisations);

3.     Language Transmission – for stakeholders who want to give input into or feedback on Irish Language transmission (e.g. classes, conversational circles, clubs and societies); and

4.     Cultural Expression for stakeholders who want to give input into or feedback on cultural expression related to Irish Language (e.g. heritage, social inclusion, sharing Irish with others).
