The programme, organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with Disability Sport Northern Ireland (DSNI), will enable young people with a disability and their friends and family to try a number of different wheelchair sports such as basketball, football and boccia.

Multi-sports sessions will take place at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum on Thursday 27 October and 24 November starting at 5.30 pm and at Omagh Leisure Complex on Thursday 3, 10 and 17 November starting at 5 pm, with sessions lasting one hour.

Speaking about the wheelchair sports programme, Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity said;

“The Council is committed to providing more opportunities for our residents to get active more often and we are pleased to work in partnership with Disability Sport Northern Ireland to provide this opportunity for young people with a disability as part of the Council’s inclusive leisure programme.”

Odhran Doherty, Active Clubs Co-ordinator for people with physical disabilities with Disability Sport NI added

“Disability Sport NI is delighted to work in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to develop and facilitate this programme of multi – sport sessions for wheelchair users and their peers. With the recent success of our local athletes in Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the interest in disability sport has never been higher. Our partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in delivering this new wheelchair sports programme will ensure that people with physical disabilities in the district have an opportunity to get involved in sport and active recreation within their local area”.
