More than 1300 children took part in this year’s Fermanagh Primary School Cross Country Championships at the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown.

The event, organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, was held over three days from Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 June 2016 attracting entries from 31 primary schools.

Chris Elliott, Leisure, Recreation and Sports Officer for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said the high temperatures made for challenging running conditions for participants.

Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, commended all those who took part in the event.

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to encouraging everyone in the district to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Councillor O’Reilly.

“The Primary School Cross Country Championships enables our young residents to participate in a large scale, structured sporting event while having fun. All the girls and boys who competed should be very proud of themselves, and I would like to thank all the schools for their support,” he added.

The Omagh Primary School Cross Country Championships, which has also been organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, is set to take place on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 June 2016 at Campsie Playing Fields, Omagh.
