Nominations open for Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Awards

Nominations are now open for the Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum Sports Awards.

The Awards, which are organised by the newly formed Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, will recognise and celebrate local sports men and women, individuals and teams, for outstanding sporting performance in 2015.

Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum is seeking nominations for local sporting talent from the district who have reached the highest achievements at County, Regional, National and International levels in the last year.  Nominations must be received by 6.00 pm, Friday 8 January 2016.

Award categories include Senior Sports Personality Junior Sports Personality; Juvenile Sports Personality; Senior Sports Team; Junior Sports Team; and Services to Sport.

The Sports Awards will also recognise outstanding contribution and achievement in sports coaching talent in the district with awards for Coach of the Year; Community Coach of the Year; and Disability Coach of the Year.

Sports coach nominees will also be automatically nominated for the North West Coaching Network and Sport NI Coaching Awards, which could potentially lead to the UK Coaching Awards.

Speaking at the launch of the Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum Sports Awards, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’ Reilly said:

 “Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is pleased to announce details of the first ever Sports Awards for the district, in partnership with Fermanagh & Omagh Sports Forum.

The Sports Awards are an excellent way to recognise the achievements of our sporting talent and I encourage people to get involved and nominate someone worthy of recognition.”

Christine McCann, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum said:

“We are delighted to launch details of the district’s first event to celebrate the success of our local athletes, teams and coaches.

In recognition of their success, all shortlisted nominees will be invited to the awards event in February where category winners will be announced. In addition, the sports coach nominees will also be nominated for the North West Coaching Network and Sport NI Coaching Awards, which is very exciting.

2015 has been a successful year for sports teams and individuals from the district and we look forward to receiving nominations.”

Nominations can be submitted by members of the public, sports governing bodies, clubs, schools, coaches and mentors. A shortlist of nominations will be compiled by Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum with winners announced at the Fermanagh and Omagh Sports Forum Sports Awards on Friday 19 February 2016 in Mahon’s Hotel, Irvinestown.
