Meet the Artist – Three Ways of Seeing

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is hosting the latest in its “Meet the Artist” series in Strule Arts Centre on Friday 25 May 2018 at 7.00 pm.

The renowned Thompson family, Mother Mavis and twin daughters, Marion and Sydney will be present to discuss the pieces in their latest exhibition “Three Ways of Seeing” which has been on display since 5 May and closes in the Arts Centre on Saturday 26 May.

Born in Omagh, Mavis, the matriarch of the family, moved to Enniskillen when she married and began working mostly in watercolours, concentrating on landscapes, seascapes buildings and still life. Over the last two decades she has diversified into sculpted pieces using driftwood and discarded timber from the sea. More recently Mavis has added the medium of collages to her repertoire and has recently completed a series of Japanese collages..

Mavis has exhibited widely both in solo shows and as part of group exhibitions and her works adorn collections all over the world including the Fermanagh County Museum and in the office of Senator Hilary Clinton.

Marion Thompson is an award winning artist, university lecturer and tutor who works in a variety of mediums. Her recent work reflects her abstract styles and she draws her inspiration from a wide range of influences including William Scott.

Sydney Thompson is an artist and conservator specialising in the conservation of Japanese paintings. She has worked in museums around the world and has now established a conservation studio in the Netherlands.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet three exceptional local artists and discuss their work with them in some detail, discover their differing approaches to their work and their respective influences.
