Lighting up to mark centenary of the Battle of the Somme

Published: 16th November 2016

On Friday 18 November 2016, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, in recognition of the centenary of the last day of the Battle of the Somme.

The lighting of the buildings to mark the centenary has been requested by the Orange Community Network (OCN) to acknowledge the huge sacrifice made by members of the Orange Order at the front line during that battle. OCN is a registered charity which provides supports and develops the work of community groups that meet in Orange Halls. It also provides and assists in the provision of facilities for recreation and leisure activities in the interests of social welfare.

The lighting up of Council buildings to mark specific days of significance is one way in which the Council may provide support to a particular charity. Enquiries regarding illuminating Council properties and charity support should be made to Louise McLaughlin, Community Services, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council by telephoning 0300 303 1777 or emailing louise.mclaughlin@fermanaghomagh.com.
