Due to adverse weather conditions activities and performances on OASIS Plaza will now take place in Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

The parade will leave County Hall car park at advertised at 1.30pm and through Omagh town centre. Fun and entertainment in Omagh town centre with the Q Radio Mega Bus and presenter Stevie King. Strule Arts Centre will host a number of performances and children’s activities throughout the day. Grab your raincoats and come and join us.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is ‘Get Green for ‘17’ to raise awareness of recycling, the environment and sustainability.

St Patrick’s Day parade
Tattyreagh Community Youth Group, which will lead this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Omagh is currently hard at work finalising its parade props made from recycled material in keeping with the ‘Get Green for ‘17’ theme.

Community, sporting, cultural and farming groups, marching bands and cheerleaders are all set to take part in this year’s festive parade which will be full of colour, music and dance.

Speaking about this year’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Omagh, Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity, said:

“St Patrick’s Day in Omagh promises to be a celebration of cultures and traditions of the Fermanagh and Omagh district with colour, sights and sounds for all the family to enjoy.”

The parade will depart from Omagh County Hall car park at 1.30pm and make its way onto Drumragh Avenue, up through Omagh town centre and turn left at Omagh Court House. It will then move onto James Street and Church Street, back down the town centre, left onto bridge Street and finish at its starting point – Omagh County Hall car park.

In addition to the St Patrick’s Day parade there will also be a fun filled programme of free entertainment and activities on offer across Omagh from 12 noon to approximately 5 pm.

On the OASIS Plaza Pio McCann will compere a multi-cultural selection of music and dance presented by Dún Uladh Heritage Centre including performances by the Scallon Sisters, local comhaltas ceoltoiri eireann groups and Newtownstewart Highland Dancers. There will also be entertainment from Duff Balloons, a fun Selfie Mirror, face painting and a selection of food traders.

At the Strule Arts Centre musicians and dancers will be performing throughout the afternoon. There will also be the opportunity to visit the Gallery to view the St Patrick’s Day primary school art exhibition, which features works by local primary schools. The centre’s new Roof Top Museum, which is an exciting space home to some interesting artefacts from the district, will also be open.

Omagh Ethnic Community Support Group will also deliver arts and crafts workshops from around the world at Omagh Community House while Q Radio will be broadcasting live from its Mega Blaster Bus in the town centre with popular presenter Stevie King. St Eugene’s Brass and Reed Band will also be performing outside the Danske Bank from 12 noon.

ISL and BSL sign language interpreters will be located on the OASIS Plaza during the afternoon. A quiet space will also be available at the Strule Arts Centre throughout the day for those who may need some time away from the crowds and noise.
