Free home compost for residents

Published: 1st May 2018

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is encouraging residents to rethink waste and improve their gardens in a sustainable way by making use of their brown bin, separate food waste collection or home composter.

The Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Stephen McCann said  “Compost has many advantages. It produces a natural soil enhancer, prevents garden waste being sent to landfill and saves our fragile peat land habitats and wildlife. Closing the loop through composting our organic waste and returning nutrients to the soil has extremely important benefits for the sustainability of our planet and food supply”.

To promote the use of compost, free home compost will be distributed free of charge on Saturday 5 May 2018  at the Council’s recycling centres at the following times and venues

9.00 am          Gortrush, Omagh and Drummee, Enniskillen

10.00 am        Belleek; Irvinestown; Kesh; Lisnaskea; Garrison; Tempo; Kinawley Newtownbutler and Roslea

11.00 am         Carrickmore; Dromore; Fintona

This compost is produced by the processing of the organic waste collected from brown bins and garden waste collected from the Council’s recycling centres.

Home Compost Bins can be collected free of charge from Killyvilly and Gortrush Depots and the larger recycling centres.
