Final preparations underway for All-Ireland Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships

The All-Ireland Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships are returning to Omagh after 14 years and will take place at Mellon Playing Fields, Omagh Academicals Rugby Football Club on Saturday 4 July 2015.

The Championships, hosted by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association NI Branch, will involve more than 60 competing bands travelling from as far as Tralee, and 40 entries across all levels in the Drum Major competitions on the day.

Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to promoting the culture and heritage of everyone in the district and is delighted to be working in partnership with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association NI Branch. 

Saturday’s competition will afford local people and visitors the opportunity to experience performances by some of the best exponents of pipe band music in Ireland in a spirit of healthy competition.”

The competitions will take place from 11 am to 6 pm. Admission to the event is £5 per adult, children free.

Omagh Show is also taking place on Saturday 4 July 2015 at the Tyrone Farming Society on the Gillygooley Road.

 A free shuttle bus will be available from Omagh Bus Station throughout Saturday afternoon to both events. Traffic control measures will be in place however people attending the All-Ireland Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships or Omagh Show are advised to allow extra time for their journey and parking. Free car parking is available at the rugby grounds for those attending the RSPBA NI Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships.
