Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has put together a packed programme of cultural and creative events to celebrate Culture Night 2017.

Culture Night, which returns to the Omagh area for the fifth year will take place on Friday 22 September 2017 and is a UK and Ireland celebration of culture, creativity and the arts. Locals and visitors can enjoy a night of free entertainment, discovery and adventure.

Strule Arts Centre will be buzzing with the sights and sounds of Culture Night from early afternoon until late evening, starting with the movie classic, Dr Zhivago, at 2 pm. Later that afternoon, children will have the opportunity to indulge in some music with Omagh Community Rhythms and Omagh Academy of Music. The little ones can get creative with art workshops and clay pinch pots. They can learn language through games, try drama workshops, or simply relax and enjoy the Lego Batman Movie.

Visitors will be able to experience a diverse mix of music and song with performances from the Omagh Ukulele Orchestra, Red Balloon Guitar Group, Omagh Community Choir and Walter and Ambre with the Asha Choir, the Irish singing group. The more active participants will have the opportunity to join in some Sean nós dancing, jiving demonstrations and learn some Latin dance moves while those of a more creative nature can try a Wild Wire workshop or clay modelling. Open Door Poetry Group and Omagh Arts Committee will offer poetry readings on the night and there will also be a chance to get ‘out and about’ in Omagh courtesy of a cultural walking tour of Omagh town.

Local cultural centres will open their doors to welcome people of all ages to sample the area’s creative offerings for free throughout the evening. Why not take this opportunity to try out a new activity? Enjoy storytelling and crafts for children at Omagh Library, decorate a bird box with Omagh Ethnic Communities Support Group at Omagh Community House. Visit An Creagán Visitor Centre or Dún Uladh Cultural Heritage Centre for traditional music.
