Council Chairman launches Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival

Registration is now open for the 2016 Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival which takes place in County Fermanagh from Monday 9 to Friday 13 May 2016.

The Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival, Ireland’s premier fishing festival, welcomes more than 240 anglers, including several previous World Champions, from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany and even further afield every year.

The ‘Waterways Ireland Classic Competition’ takes place on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the ‘King of the Erne’ competition completing the Festival on Tuesday and Thursday.

The 2016 Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival is organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in association with the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure Inland Fisheries Group and sponsored by Waterways Ireland.

This year the Festival prize fund is worth more than £20,000 with section, daily and aggregate prizes also on offer.

Launching this year’s Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival, the  Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly commended the event as one of the longest established in the county, saying:

“The Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival is firmly established in the calendar of many enthusiastic anglers and we are delighted to welcome them year after year. This is one of the key events of the tourist season, and I look forward to welcoming returning faces and new fishing enthusiasts to this year’s festival”.
