A conference, designed to inspire efforts to build peace and good relations across the Fermanagh and Omagh district, has taken place as part of Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week.

Organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in partnership with the Rural Community Network and Corrymeela, the ‘Inspired to Act’ conference brought together more than 60 people from a range of sectors and community backgrounds in the Tara Centre, Omagh, on October 1.

With guest speakers, Paddy Logue of the Social Justice Trust and Maura Twohig, co-founder of the Tara Centre, Omagh, delegates were encouraged to discuss challenges faced at building peace at a local level and to consider how an action, no matter how small, can help to continue to build peace and good relations locally.

A number of workshops were also delivered by Corrymeela 20/20 Visions project to help delegates explore the practice and politics of living well together.

Local choir, ‘Together One Voice’ and dance group, ‘Dance Revelation’ also performed a programme of uplifting entertainment to enthuse, inspire and motivate.

Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week, ran from Monday 28 September to Sunday 4 October 2015. The Week aims to provide opportunities to increase understanding and engagement within and between communities to help build a shared society.

Last year, more than 200 events were held throughout Northern Ireland as part of Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week. The Week, which is in its 13th year, is coordinated by the Community Relations Council.
