Classic Fishing Festival continues

Published: 12th May 2016

The 2016 Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Festival continued on Wednesday 11 May on the shores of Lough Erne, with some new names coming on to the leader-board. The top three weights came from the Portora section, so all the anglers know that the fish have arrived around the island town of Enniskillen.

Today’s top weight of 29 kgs 800gms was caught by Newtownabbey angler William Donaldson at peg 4 on Portora, which earned him the top daily prize of £500.  Second was Jordan Hall from Lisnaskea with 24kg 640 gms, caught from peg 3 at the Portora section. In third spot was Banbury angler Daniel Varney, who landed 19kgs 680gms from the same Portora section, with Classic regular Steve Priestly from Manchester in fourth with 17kgs 880gms on the Boa Island section.

The action continues on Thursday with the second and final day of the King of the Erne competition and the final Classic fishing day is on Wednesday.  Today’s winner William Donaldson will be carrying a 7kg 400gm advantage over his nearest rival, Jordan Hall, but many of the anglers in the top ten will be hoping that they can draw a ‘flier’ on Friday that will net them the top prize of £5,000 and the Crystal Chalice.

The Classic is sponsored for the fourteenth year by Waterways Ireland and is organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in conjunction with the Inland Fisheries Division of the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.
