CIRQUE DES OISEAUX  The Higher Bridges Gallery 7-29 April 2017

Cirque des Oiseaux

Published: 3rd April 2017

Fermanagh & Omagh District Council welcomes Cirque des Oiseaux to the Higher Bridges Gallery opening on Friday 7 April 2017.

The exhibition, supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland through the ACES Award scheme, is based on new work by Fermanagh-born poet Maria McManus. Maria has a special interest in exploring ways of increasing the presence of literature in public spaces and she has created this exhibition in collaboration with eight artists, whose expertise embraces a range of disciplines such as fine art, music composition, filmmaking and photography.

The core theme of auguries and auspices, is based on the ancient Greek and Roman culture. Designated people in the civilisations (augurs) interpreted the will of the gods (the auspices) from the flight patterns of birds, and were also the conduits through which messages from the people were conveyed to the gods.

The resultant multimedia exhibition incorporates visual art, soundscape installation, film photography and poetry. All the art-works produced by the artists have been responding to the theme and the poems that Maria wrote for the Cirque des Oiseaux Project.

Cirque des Oiseaux opens at The Higher Bridges Gallery which is currently based at the Clinton Centre, Belmore Street, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh on Friday 7 April 2017 from 7.00 pm and will be on display until 29 April 2017. Admission to the gallery is free.

For further details about visual arts in the Fermanagh & Omagh District or about this exhibition please view the Higher Bridges Gallery Facebook page or contact the Arts Officer by email at or telephone 0300 303 1777 ext. 21192.
