The Christmas season in Omagh gets underway on Thursday 26 November with the annual ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’.

A great programme of family entertainment has been arranged, with carols from Christ the King Primary School Choir, addresses from the Council Chairman and Omagh Churches Forum, and music from the Whistlin’ Donkeys and Shane Owens.  This year’s special guest is Derek Ryan and his band.

The entertainment commences at 6:30pm in the town centre and includes the traditional Parade of Santa and his Cartoon Character helpers, who come through Bridge Street and High Street, arriving at the Courthouse to switch on the Christmas Lights at 7.45pm.

To facilitate the ‘Switch On’ event, a temporary street closure on High Street will be in operation from approximately 4.30pm – 9pm. However all car parks will be open as normal. PSNI Officers and stewards will coordinate arrangements to minimise disruption. A specially designated area at the front of the stage will be reserved for those with disabilities, and ISL and BSL language interpreters will be available. Places for this special access area must be reserved in advance by phoning 0300 303 1777, Textphone 028 6632 7969 or email info@fermanaghomagh.com.

From Thursday 3 December through to Monday 7 December the annual Christmas Cracker Event takes place in Omagh town centre, with many of the retailers offering special offers and promotions, providing excellent value for Christmas shoppers. Street entertainment and music in Omagh town centre on Saturday 5 December 2015, from 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm will add to the festive atmosphere.

The popular Santa Dander returns this year on Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 December from 12pm – 4pm. This treasure hunt style trail around the town centre, picking up clues on presents for Santa’s Sack, is suitable for all the family.

A ‘Christmas Events Guide’ will be made available at town centre businesses, tourist information centres, local tourist attractions and other key locations in neighbouring towns.  This guide will promote all businesses participating in the Christmas Cracker event and will assist in the promotion of events/activities happening throughout December.
