Published: 31st May 2016

Omagh’s Summer Carnival ‘A Taste of Summer’, will take place on Saturday 18 June 2016 at the OASIS Plaza from 12 noon to 5.00 pm.

Organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, launched details of the carnival with help from young people from South West College’s Life Skills project who will perform circus skills at the event.

As well as a jam packed programme of family entertainment taking place at the OASIS Plaza throughout the afternoon, there will also be a number of food stalls offering a culinary taste of summer in celebration of Tourism NI’s Year of Food and Drink, with ice cream, milk shakes, crepes and cupcakes.

Speaking about this year’s Omagh Summer Carnival, Councillor O’Reilly said:

“The Omagh Summer Carnival promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family with a range of entertainment available throughout the afternoon from both local talent and visiting performers.

The OASIS Plaza is a wonderful events space and I am delighted to see it being used for another family extravaganza where people will be able to soak up the carnival atmosphere right throughout the afternoon.

I encourage everyone to keep free the afternoon of Saturday 18 June 2016 so they can come along to the OASIS Plaza and enjoy a great day out.”

The afternoon’s entertainment will include dance, drama, music, African drumming, circus skills, face painting, balloon modelling, street entertainment and much more!

Pupils from Omagh County and Holy Family primary schools, as well as students from Erne College will perform with world class beat boxer and musicians from Sri Lanka. There will also be performances from local groups including Omagh Academy’s Samba and Pipe bands, Dramatise Youth Theatre which will present the “Mad Hatters Tea Party”; Skyzdalimit; Eskra Community Arts Group; Music Matters plus others.

A number of hands on African drumming; circus skills; cup cake decorating; and balloon modelling workshops will also be on offer throughout the afternoon where people are encouraged to get involved and take part.
