Aquanatal classes for mums-to-be at Omagh Leisure Complex

Aquanatal classes

Published: 26th August 2016

Expectant mums living within the Fermanagh and Omagh district are benefiting from water based fitness classes at the Council’s Omagh Leisure Complex.

Aquanatal – which is similar to aqua aerobics specifically designed for mums-to-be – has been brought to the district by the Western Health and Social Care Trust in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

The aquanatal classes at Omagh Leisure Complex are delivered by local midwives, who have undertaken specific training facilitated by Amanda Sayers, Lead Midwife for the Western Trust, who recognise the benefits of aquanatal classes for expectant mums.

The classes have been designed to give expectant mothers low impact gentle exercise to build stamina needed for labour, birth and post natal recovery and improve overall health and well-being.

Deborah Maxwell, Manager of Omagh Leisure Complex, said:

“We are delighted to host the aquanatal classes at Omagh Leisure Complex.

The classes are a great way to keep fitness levels up during pregnancy with support and guidance provided from local midwives.

They are also highly enjoyable and social, where mums-to-be can have a chat with each other and the midwives after the class.

We have had excellent feedback from those taking part in the class so far and look forward to continuing to welcome expectant mums to Omagh Leisure Complex for the aquanatal classes.”

The aquanatal classes at Omagh Leisure Complex are available to pregnant women who have had their first booking scan and live within the Western Trust area.

One-hour aquanatal classes take place at Omagh Leisure Complex on Mondays at 9.00 am and cost £3.00 per person per class.

For further information about the aquanatal classes at Omagh Leisure Complex please contact the complex directly on 028 8224 6711 or speak to your midwife.
