Irish Christmas Concert in Strule Arts Centre

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s annual Ceolchoirm na Nollag will take place in Strule Arts Centre on Thursday 7 December at 8 pm.
This concert will feature a number of local artists and a guest group who will all perform in both English and in Irish.

Among the local acts will be the children of Gaelscoil na gCrann who will entertain with music and songs in Irish. Songs in Irish will also be sung by local adult singing group Ceoltóirí na hÓmaí.

Dromore’s well established choir Harmonise will sing songs and carols in English and Irish as well as perform some traditional Irish music and dance pieces. Modern songs and songs with a Christmas flavour will feature in the repertoire of the Omagh Ukulele Orchestra.

The invited guests for this year’s concert are Belfast based group Ériu who perform arrangements of traditional music and songs fused with other musical influences such as jazz. On the night, lead singer of Ériu, Caoimhe Ní Chathail, will deliver a workshop on singing in Irish in Strule Arts Centre from 6 pm. The workshop, which will last approximately one hour, will include two traditional songs and an Irish translation of an Edith Piaf song. Admission to the workshop is free.

Páistí Ghaelscoil na gCrann a chuireas tús le himeachtaí lena rogha amhráin agus píosaí ceoil. Beidh Ceoltóirí na hÓmaí ag cur a gcuid amhrán i nGaeilge i láthair ina dhiaidh sin.

Cór fad bunaithe anois is ea Harmonise ón Droim Mór a cheolas idir amhráin is iomainn le blás na Nollag ar chuid acu. Cloisfear píosa ceoil traidisiúnta uathu fosta a mbeidh damhsóirí ag déanamh steip leis. Seinnteoirí ukulele a cheolann amhráin lena gcuid ceoil féin is é atá in Omagh Ukulele Orchestra.

Aoighrúpa na bliana seo ag Ceolchoirm na Nollag ná Ériu ó Bhéal Feirste a cheolann píosaí ceoil agus amhráin traidisiúnta measctha le cinealacha ceoil eile a bhfuil jazz mar cheann acu.

Tabharfaidh príomh amhránaí Ériu, Caoimhe Ní Chathail, ceardlann in amhránaíocht as Gaeilge ó 6-7i.n. an oíche chéanna. Dhá amhrán traidisiúnta agus amhrán de chuid Edith Piaf a bheas faoi chabidil ag Caoimhe sa cheardlann seo. Imeacht saor in aisce é seo.
