The Impartial Reporter at 200 celebrates two centuries of journalism from the newspaper’s earliest edition, first published on 19th May 1825. Founded in 1825, it has witnessed social and political change, celebrated local triumphs and reported on life’s poignant moments. Through historic pages, photographs, memorabilia, and personal archives, visitors will be invited to explore the role The Impartial Reporter has played in the life of Fermanagh, South Tyrone and the border counties.
The exhibition explores the newspaper’s changing role in chronicling local life from royal visits to community traditions and sporting achievements. Central to The Impartial Reporter’s legacy is the Trimble family with its emphasis on fearless and independent reporting. The newspaper’s story is told in a compelling and visual way through a curated collection of material from The Impartial Reporter’s archives and museum collections.
