Supporting Business and Employment
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is to the forefront of providing free assistance to local businesses throughout the district through a myriad of support programmes and other assistance.

European Union funded Business Support Programmes
Considerable European Funding from the ERDF Investment for Growth and Jobs Fund has been secured to run three programmes which will provide business support and advice to hundreds of local businesses –

As well as the suite of support offered through the EU funded programmes the Council offers a vast array of other free support and initiatives to assist our local business base including:

First Stop Shop

FSS Logo

First Stop Shop is a mentoring support programme available to businesses within the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area which aims to encourage an entrepreneurial culture, assist development, increase productivity, stimulate growth and boost job creation.

Support is available in a wide number of areas including;

Through targeted and professional support, businesses will be in an elevated position to win new work, increase turnover, improve business processes, develop new business relationships and create jobs to retain skilled local employees.

Social Economy Programme
The Social Economy Programme is a mentoring support programme available to businesses within the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area with primarily social objectives. The programme aims to provide support and advise to start up as well as established social enterprise businesses and entrepreneurs in the areas of;

Profit Through Procurement
The Profit Through Procurement Programme assists small businesses to apply for public sector or large scale private sector tender opportunities. The programme is being delivered by Global Education (NI) Ltd and assists 25 businesses through two days of one-to-one mentoring which will focus on the specific requirements of public sector or large scale private sector tendering and will assist businesses to improve their knowledge, skills capability and ability to submit tenders to win new work.

A further phase of the Profit Through Procurement Programme may be run in the next financial year.

Tourism Excellence Progamme
The Council’s Tourism Development Strategy identified, within the strategic theme of Business Engagement and Development, the need to establish a Tourism Excellence Programme to support local tourism businesses. This mentoring programme will support up to 20 local businesses operating within the visitor economy.

Other Business Support Initiatives
Throughout the year the Council’s Economic Development Section also hosts a comprehensive series of workshops and events covering relevant and topical subjects tailored to the needs of the local community. Events can include presentations by guest speakers, training courses on e-commerce, digital marketing help with tendering to name but a few and aimed at all business sectors within the district.

The Council also delivers a week long Enterprise Week in partnership with a range of relevant stakeholders, again offering a myriad of free business support events in a wide range of locations throughout the district to support and develop our indigenous business base.

The last Enterprise Week was held at the beginning of November 2017 and attracted well over 600 participants.
