Launch of refurbished tennis facilities at Bawnacre Centre

The newly refurbished tennis courts and associated facilities at the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown have been officially opened by the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Stephen McCann.

Almost £250,000 has been invested at the Council’s leisure centre to restore the tennis facilities to a high standard. £139,000 has been invested by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council with a further £110,000 secured from the Landfill Communities Fund.

Councillor Stephen McCann was joined by fellow Councillors, representatives from Irvinestown Lawn Tennis Club and the contractor, SIS Pitches Ltd, to officially declare the facilities open.

Commenting on the completed upgrade to the tennis facilities, Councillor McCann said:

“Before the upgrade one of the courts was closed while the other could only be used weather permitting.

These facilities have been transformed, ensuring that our residents continue to have access to high specification, modern public tennis courts and facilities within the district.

This significant investment demonstrates the Council’s commitment to delivering on one of the key outcomes of its Corporate Plan; to ensure the people of the district are healthy and well physically, mentally and emotionally through the delivery of quality Leisure, Recreation and Sports facilities across the district.

I would like to commend all those involved in bringing this project to completion; Council officers, contractors and visitors to the Bawnacre Centre for their continued patience and cooperation during the refurbishment works.”

The refurbishment works to the tennis courts and facilities included new foundations, drainage, new carpeted playing surfaces and a flood lighting upgrade.
