A programme of works to upgrade a number of utility networks in Enniskillen is anticipated to start early next year.

The works are to be undertaken by several utility providers including Northern Ireland Electricity, SGN Gas to the West and Northern Ireland Water on a phased approach to minimise disruption.

Drop in information sessions about the proposed utility works will take place in Fermanagh House, Enniskillen on Tuesday 20 November 2018 from 4.30pm to 8pm. There will also be a presentation from the utility providers about the proposed works at 5pm and 6.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

The utility works are being undertaken before the start of the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme which will see improvements to footpaths, street lighting, landscaping and street furniture.

The Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme is a £5.2 million project with investment from the Department for Communities and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. The Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme is anticipated to start in summer 2019, once the utility providers have completed their programme of activity.

Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Councillor, Councillor Howard Thornton, said:

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has been working with utility providers to ensure that upgrade works to their systems and infrastructure are undertaken before the Council begins the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme.

We welcome the commitment from the utility providers to undertake these works before the start of the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme and the advance notice provided.

The utility works will cause some disruption however they are necessary to future proof the improvements to the town’s streetscape as part of the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme. We hope that disruption will be kept to a minimum.”

Footpaths and road verges in Enniskillen will be ‘made good’ with a temporary finish once the utility providers have completed their works. This finish is a temporary measure until the start of the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme which will replace the footpath with high quality paving and resurface the road in its entirety.

Everyone is welcome to attend the drop in public information session at Fermanagh House on Tuesday 20 November 2018 anytime between 4.30pm – 8pm.
