Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has organised an ‘Outdoor Fitness Challenge’ – a free 12 – week programme aimed at encouraging adults to build up physical activity in a gradual and healthy way.

The initiative is funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA) through its Healthy Towns programme and is aimed at people aged 18 years old and over who find taking exercise difficult. The free gym programme will commence at the Round ‘O’, Enniskillen on Wednesday 18 April 2018 and Castle Park Leisure Centre, Lisnaskea on Thursday 19 April 2018 at 5.30pm.

The programme will be led by a fully qualified Fermanagh and Omagh District Council fitness coach who will provide professional training, support and advice to help participants get more active more often.

Launching details of the ‘Outdoor Fitness Challenge’, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Stephen McCann, highlighting the importance of physical activity and increased exercise, said:

“The Council is committed to improving the health and well-being of our residents and has installed outdoor gym facilities across the district so that people can get active and keep fit at a time and location convenient to them.

Being active and keeping fit is essential for improving health and well-being. The ‘Outdoor Fitness Challenge’ is a great way for people to take the first steps to improved fitness and to establishing a habit of exercise. I encourage people to take part in this opportunity and to make good use of outdoor gym facilities in their area.”

For further information or to register for the ‘Outdoor Fitness Challenge’ please contact Chris Elliott, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, by telephoning 0300 303 1777. Participants will be admitted to the programme only after completing a health screening assessment.
