One Day Irish, Ulster Scots and Scots Gaelic Festival to Take Place in Strule Arts Centre

15th February 2019

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s annual Irish, Ulster Scots and Scots Gaelic festival will take place in Strule Arts Centre on Saturday 2 March 2019.

This all-day event begins at 10:00 am with language courses in Irish and Scots Gaelic. The language courses will offer Irish classes for participants at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels while a native speaker will lead the Scots Gaelic course, which caters for all levels of learners. The language courses will run from 10.00 am until 4:00 pm.

At 4:00 pm David Dunlop, from North Antrim, will give a talk on his personal journey as an Ulster Scots speaker and how this journey has influenced his creativity and inspiration as a writer and musician and contributed to the understanding of his identity.

David’s Ulster Scots/Irish traditional music group Brí will perform in concert later in the evening beginning at 8:00 pm. ‘Brí’s repertoire is a fusion of musical styles featuring traditional Irish and Scottish tunes as they were destined to be played…with energy and vitality, a literal translation of their Gaelic name.

The group comprises David Dunlop, Dee Tasker, one of Ulster’s foremost flute players and performer and music teacher, Heather Montgomery, on fiddle. They will also be joined on stage by piper Alan Wade.

Tickets for the language courses cost £5 while concert tickets are priced at £8 (£5 concession). Tickets for both events can be purchased on line at www.struleartscentre.co.uk or by telephoning the Strule Arts Centre box office at 028 82247831.
