Omagh Music Festival Call for Memorabilia

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is asking members of the public to share their memorabilia from the 1960’s showband era so it can be displayed in the exhibition which will take place this autumn in Strule Arts Centre.

Members of public are asked to share any posters, pictures, tickets or other artefacts they may have that feature showbands from the Omagh area so they can be showcased in the exhibition.

A drop in event will take place in Strule Arts Centre on Saturday 02 July 2022 from 10 am – 12 noon so people can call in and donate or loan items for the exhibition.

The exhibition will feature the images, music, memories and memorabilia of Omagh showbands from the late 1950’s through to the 1960’s. The exhibition will coincide with Omagh Music Festival which takes place from Thursday 29 September – Sunday 02 October 2022 and complements the development of an Omagh Music Trail in the town centre.

Speaking about the exhibition Fermanagh & Omagh District Council Chair, Cllr Barry McElduff said

“As Chair of the Council and an elected Councillor for Omagh Town, I am delighted that the Council is hosting this exhibition to recognise the wealth of musical talent and tradition of Omagh.

Personally speaking, it is a theme that is really close to my heart.

Music has the power to connect communities and it is central to the soul and DNA of the people of Omagh.  It is absolutely at the heart of Omagh’s story with the town being home to a number of Music Legends across many genres and art forms.

It is really important that the musical heritage of Omagh and the talent from the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area is cherished and remembered for future generations to enjoy”.
