The annual Omagh and Sperrins Walking Weekend will take place this year on Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 March and will offer opportunities for locals and visitors alike to explore the stunning locations across the Sperrins, home to some of the most picturesque scenery in Northern Ireland.

The walking weekend, organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, will offer a series of moderate and challenging walks catering for the experienced and enthusiastic walker. The walks will be led by experienced guides with registration on Saturday at Gortin Activity Centre and on Sunday at An Creagán.

Speaking at the launch of the Walking Festival, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie said, “One of the key outcomes in the Fermanagh and Omagh Community Plan 2030 is to ensure that the people of the district are healthy and well, physically, mentally and emotionally. The Omagh and Sperrins Walking Festival encourages everyone to get out and get active while at the same time affording participants the opportunity to absorb the beauty of some of the most spectacular locations in Ireland.

I would encourage everyone to use this opportunity to get out, get active and enjoy our wonderful countryside.”

Participants should wear appropriate sturdy footwear and clothing and have due regard for the weather forecast on the day of the walk.

As places are limited early booking is advisable and can be completed online (each walk costs £5) from the events section at www.exploreomaghsperrins.com.
