Two new pieces of art have been installed in Enniskillen as part of a partnership project between Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Enniskillen Business Improvement District (BID) to enhance the town and support the local economy.

The Heart feature is located at the Broadmeadow with the iconic Enniskillen Castle providing a stunning backdrop.

Designed as a unique ‘selfie’ frame, the installation, conceived and crafted by members of the Council’s Building Maintenance team based at Killyvilly Works Depot in Enniskillen, has already proved popular with locals and visitors alike showing their love for Enniskillen by sharing their heart ‘selfies’ on social media.

The second piece, a replica of a traditional Fermanagh Cattle Cot, has been installed at the Ardhowen. The feature was also devised, designed and built by skilled craftsmen from the Council’s Building Maintenance team at Killyvilly Works Depot.

The Cattle cot is a faithful re-creation of the famed boat which was once popular on Lough Erne.

Speaking about the art installations, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson, said;

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to working in partnership with others to make the district a wonderful place to live, work and visit and was delighted to work with Enniskillen BID on this latest initiative.

The new features, which were designed and crafted by Council staff and funded by Enniskillen BID, are wonderful additions to the town. They have already created significant interest and generated many positive comments from residents and visitors alike.

The pieces are a fantastic showcase of the talents and skills of our Council staff and local craftspeople and are helping to instil a real sense of civic pride in the area while the Cattle Cot also honours bygone days and embraces our unique history and heritage as the island of Ireland’s only island town.”

Enniskillen BID manager, Noelle McAloon, said;

“I am delighted with the outcome of this most recent partnership between Enniskillen BID and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.  The Cot and Selfie Heart, which are features unique to Enniskillen, enhance our island town and help with the overwhelming sense of pride in Enniskillen for locals and visitors alike. I commend the craftmanship of the council staff in the design and construction of both features.”

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Enniskillen BID continue to work in partnership to improve the townscape and support the local economy.
