‘From Around the World; Celebrating Our Cultures’ opens at Strule Arts Centre

An exhibition, ‘From Around the World; Celebrating Our Cultures’ has opened at Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.
Officially opened by Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson on Friday 3 September 2021, the exhibition, curated by the Council’s Good Relations team, celebrates cultural diversity within the Council area.
‘From Around the World; Celebrating Our Cultures’ is a reflection of the passion and love for the preservation and promotion of the different cultures and nationalities of those both local and from the countries of those who have a connection to the district.
Images reflecting 13 different cultures and traditions feature in the exhibition. Authentic items from the many different cultures, secured on loan, enhance the exhibition together with personal reflections of participants telling their stories.
The exhibition represents the culmination of a body of work undertaken by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with representatives of the various ethnic communities across the district.
Opening the exhibition in Omagh, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson, said:
“The Fermanagh and Omagh district is a microcosm of a modern Northern Ireland which is made up of a rich tapestry of cultures.
This exhibition celebrates the diversity of the cultures within the district while highlighting the similar characteristics which many of them share. It tells the story of people who have connections to our district, their experiences and their hopes for the future.
I am delighted that those who have made their homes in our district from many countries across the world, together with the local traditions are happy and proud to share and promote their own cultures, introducing us all to a whole raft of cultural experiences.”
‘From Around the World; Celebrating Our Cultures’ runs at Strule Arts Centre until 24 September 2021. Admission free. Strule Arts Centre is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm.
