14th September 2018

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in partnership with Ulster Tennis and Sport Northern Ireland as part of the Every Body Active 2020 programme, are encouraging tennis players to avail of free tennis court sessions at the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown as part of their Tennis for Free programme.

The free one-hour slots suitable for all ages are available each Wednesday and Friday from 4.00pm – 8.00pm and on Saturdays from 10.00am – 5.00pm.

Speaking about the forthcoming sessions, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Howard Thornton said;

“This is an excellent opportunity to avail of the Council’s newly refurbished tennis courts at the Bawnacre Centre and the expert tuition that is available. I would encourage those who would like to try a new sport or indeed those who may not have played tennis for a while, to avail of this opportunity and to use the free session slots available to rekindle their love for the sport.”

Sport Northern Ireland Chair, George Lucas said;

“As an avid tennis player myself, I’m delighted to see the launch of the Tennis for Free initiative that will be giving everyone an opportunity to participate in the sport. There has been much work happening in the background of this initiative and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has been involved with bringing it to life. Money can be scarce, so with this great free programme, it will encourage people of all ages and abilities to get involved in the sport, make new friends and maybe in years to come, we will see someone from the programme competing at Wimbledon!”

Participants are required to have their own equipment, however, limited resources may be available for hire from the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown.

In order to register for the free court sessions please contact the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown, 028 686 211 77. Courts are now available for booking for this programme.
