Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in partnership with Omagh Chamber of Commerce, is providing a free shuttle bus service between Omagh town centre and the Ulster American Folk Park on Saturday 1 September for patrons attending the 27th Annual Bluegrass Music Festival.

The Bluegrass Festival is one of the largest festivals of its kind outside North America and attracts thousands of tourists every year to the Omagh area.

Speaking about the shuttle bus initiative, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Howard Thornton said;

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is delighted to be working in partnership with Omagh Chamber of Commerce to not only provide this excellent free service for the town, but to reinforce the strong link which Omagh has both with the Folk Park and with the Bluegrass Festival. I am confident that the provision of a free shuttle bus on Saturday, an initiative put forward by Omagh Town Centre Forum, will encourage tourists to explore the unique retail and hospitality experience which the town centre has to offer and promote both Omagh and the festival. It will be a valuable service for regular and first time attendees and will also encourage more local people to attend the event.”

President of the Omagh Chamber of Commerce, Hilary Nelson also welcomed the initiative.

“By offering the free shuttle bus, it is hoped that there will be increased footfall in the town with the influx of tourists in the area, as well as providing an incentive for local people who perhaps have never been to the festival. The Saturday shuttle bus is a pilot project and if successful, will hopefully be developed for the future.”

The bus will depart from the lay-by outside South West College (opposite Ulsterbus Depot) every hour on the hour starting from 12noon and return from the Ulster American Folk Park every hour on the half hour starting from 12.30pm, with the last bus returning to Omagh at 12.30am.

The bus is first come, first served, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to enjoy the delights of both Omagh and the Bluegrass Festival this weekend!
