Fermanagh and Omagh District Council reopened the flood lit tennis courts at the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown on Thursday 28 May 2020.

This follows the easing of some restrictions announced recently by the Northern Ireland Executive as part of its Pathway to Recovery Plan and guidance received from Tennis Ireland, the governing body for the sport.

Speaking about the reopening of the courts, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie said:

“While the Council welcomes the easing of some restrictions by the Executive which enables it to reopen the tennis courts at the Bawnacre, the people’s safety remains our underlying priority. The signs are encouraging, but we have a long way to go in the battle against the spread of Covid-19. Sport is good for both mental and physical health and this is a welcome step, however all those using facilities must do so responsibly by following existing social distancing protocols at all times while enjoying the opportunity to resume sporting activities.”

Courts can be booked in one hour slots by anyone wishing to play. To book a court, please contact the Bawnacre Centre, by telephone only on 028 6862 1777 from Tuesday – Friday between 1pm and 2 pm and from 4 pm – 5 pm. No walk-ins will be permitted. All users must supply their own equipment.

Payment for use of the courts will be taken at the time of booking and can only be made by credit or debit card. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

Time slots for which the courts can be booked are as follows:

Tuesday to Thursday: 1pm, 2.30pm, 4pm, 5.30pm and 7pm

Friday: 12 noon, 1.30pm, 3pm and 4.30pm

Saturday: 12 noon, 1.30pm and 3pm.

Please note that toilets and changing facilities at the tennis courts and at the Bawnacre Centre remain closed.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will continue to actively review the status of its facilities in line with guidance from the NI Executive and with prevailing public health advice. The Council will at all times put the health and safety of its residents, visitors and staff at the forefront of its decision making in relation to the reopening and the day to day operations of its facilities.
